Examples of Enhancing Treatment & Care with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT): Electric Cord Bite With Thermal Burns In A Canine
An 11 month old male retriever was referred for hyperbaric oxygen therapy 48 hours after biting an electric cord, which resulted in severe thermal burns and large necrotic wounds to his tongue and lower lip. The referring veterinarian had performed chest radiographs, which revealed no evidence of pulmonary or pleural pathology.
Clavamax, Tramadol, and Rimadyl were continued as prescribed by the referring veterinarian. Canned food was mixed with water in a slurry mixture for the first 48 hours, and HBOT at 1.5 ATA was begun within an hour of admission.
A total of 8 HBOT treatment sessions were given over 96 hours following admission. The three images are recorded at admission, 36 hours post admission, and at follow up 17 days later.
