Grayson’s Amazing Outcome After Idiopathic Epilepsy Diagnosis
On his third birthday in April 2020, Grayson, a domestic long-haired cat, first saw Dr. Jay McDonnell. He was referred for a consult as he had a new onset of two seizures in a day.
When both an MRI of his brain and a cerebrospinal fluid tap came back normal, thus ruling out any underlying conditions that could be causing the seizures, Grayson was diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy. Dr. McDonnell prescribed Keppra Oral Suspension and Phenobarbital Oral Suspension.
Grayson was seen for regular checkups, three times in the first year, every eight months for two years, and then once a year. During this time Dr. McDonnell slowly decreased the amount of Phenobarbital Grayson received.
Fast forward six years: Grayson has not had a single seizure since 2020! While success to this degree in treating cats with seizures is a rarity, we are so happy to see such an outstanding outcome!
