I was so scared when my vet told me to go to a neurologist, but they made everything easy, and fixed up my pal to boot.
A great and talented group of doctors. IN fact, everyone was so helpful and nice. I was so scared when my vet told me to go to a neurologist, but they made everything easy, and fixed up my pal to boot. Thanks so much for everything.more
This was the second time in two years they have performed surgery on my pet, same issue, different spots. Both times, they were wonderful to work with, explained everything and answered all my questions. I would recommend them to anyone needing a specialized surgery.more
Dr. McDonnell is the best! He saved my dog, Sam, from debilitating pain, with ventral slot decompressive surgery (ruptured disc in his neck)... it has been about 5 years now and Sam is doing great!more
While my experience was most difficult and as unpleasant as they get it, having lost my best friend, I can find peace in knowing that my puppy had the best care. Speaking with the Dr. I was most confident that he was the best of the best. I am such a skeptic and usually feel the compulsion to immediately google everything and fact check what I am being told. It's been a week since my puppy passed away and I feel no need to fact check the neurologist - his deductive reasoning sorting through all possibilities based on his years of personal experience and education was more thorough than any research I could conduct myself. Furthermore, there was a person behind these cold facts of life; a loving person that matched my dedication to my pet and doing what was in her best interest. When I...more
She spent many months under beds and chairs, hardly walking, and now she is full of energy and playing with her 2 feline brothers.
Dr. Jay McDonnell is one of the very gifted doctors, full of talent and also respect for the animals he treats. He worked wonders on my cat Joelle. She had started limping and stumbling, so it was more than arthritis. Dr. McDonnell found and removed inflamed tissue from her sacrum, and now she is like a young cat again (at 12 yrs). The surgery was a success, her recovery rapid, and her new world is bright. Forever grateful, Joelle and her mom:hearts::grin: Her world is bigger and brighter, thanks to Dr. McDonnell and his brilliance and big heart. We thank you!:hearts::hearts::hearts::smile_cat::smile_cat:more
I cannot say enough good things about Dr.McDonnell and his amazing and knowledgable staff. This doctor and his team went positively above and beyond the call of duty to help our sweet Ryder and although our end result was a devastating loss, we took comfort in knowing he had the BEST veterinary care available to him. We are forever grateful for this team and the effort, love, and compassion they gave our boy.more

I only have one word to say what I think about Veterinary Neurology of the Chesapeake and that is AWESOME!! They were all very caring and took wonderful care of Miley. They even made sure that I was okay, because this emergency was very emotional for me as well. I am happy to say, that Miley has made a wonderful recovery so far and in a very short time, thanks to Dr. McDonnell and the staff. I can't believe the difference in Miley, from May 10th until now. The MRI and spinal tap allowed Dr. McDonnell to find the main cause of her problem and to start treatment. Thank you again for saving my baby girl for me!!!more

From the receptionist to the technician and the doctors, these people are a true credit to their professions.
From the receptionist to the technician and the doctors, these people are a true credit to their professions. Everyone there was very compassionate about my situation when I had to go there with my kitty last October. Cats can be difficult patients sometimes, but they did not make it seem like it was any trouble dealing with her feline nature. They took excellent care of her and I felt like they really tried to understand what I wanted to accomplish with her appointment there. Dr. Jay McDonnell is a great guy and I really felt like he made the effort to ensure he did everything that he could to help us find the answers we needed.more
My 7yr old mixed breed sweet baby boy had an FCE spinal stroke. Dr. Haley and the staff took such good care of him. While I was a mess and couldn't stop crying they kept me in check and reassured me we would all be ok.
Thank you Veterinary Neurology of the Chesapeake!more

If you are a pet parent seeking an experienced top-notch Neurological facility, the search stops here at Veterinary Neurology of the Chesapeake. I have been a client there for nearly 2 years since my little girl, Peaches, was diagnosed with severe, cluster seizure epilepsy. I was referred to Dr. McDonnell in January of 2016. Epilepsy is a tricky disorder and treatment is very individualized. It takes experience, patience and a learned knowledge of the disorder and the various meds and dosages. Dr. McDonnell fills all those requirements while exhibiting a confident "don't worry, we're going to lick this problem". It took 6 months to begin getting results and we achieved success in 8 months. (This process can take a year or more in some cases.) During those months there were many...more
At our visits, Dr. McDonnell says "He looks real good!" with candor like that of a proud dad.” At one of our visits we were talking about Bandit’s progress, “ Dr. McDonnell stated, ‘When he came in, he was in real bad shape.’ It has not been an easy journey, but we are 1 1/2 years seizure free and still going strong thanks to the team led by Dr. McDonnell! We celebrate every day with our lil' man, Bandit!!!more
Dr. McDonnell and his fabulous staff were wonderful helping us develop a treatment plan for Lewis' epilepsy. They were always accessible to us as we navigated the complexities of his disease. We felt that they really listened to our observations and concerns, allowing us to be a valued part of the process.

Dr. McDonnell and his team are the most caring and conscientious people I have ever had the pleasure to deal with in all of my many, many visits to vet specialists. Dr. McDonnell’s gentle and compassionate nature did wonders to calm my nervous kitty Nero during his many visits, and during Nero’s touch-and-go recovery, Dr. McDonnell never once was willing to give up on him. Dr. McDonnell’s skill and unending care, and his team’s personal kindness were the lynchpins that got Nero, and me, through such a harrowing ordeal. The care they provide to your pet, and you, is truly unequalled.more
